Failure by store to use precautions to protect Fragile items from being destroyed during shipping.

Failure by store to use precautions to protect Fragile items from being destroyed during shipping.

After successfuly shipping a glass Neon Sign from Lake County Illinois to a recipient in Missouri, using UPS Store #4574, I was very impressed with their attention to detail. Knowing that the contents were fragile, I felt especially comfortable using the same UPS store to send another neon sign to a customer in North Dakota. After double-checking with the Store Manager Cameron at the counter, it was confirmed “they would be shipping the sign in the same type of box used as the previous sign was sent in; a “Golf Clubs” box”. Insurance was increased to cover the value of the sign.

Sadly, unlike the first sign which arrived undamaged, this one arrived destroyed. After comparing pictures of the box received from the Missouri recipient, the box sent to North Dakota was totally different having the words “Golf Clubs” printed on its sides and NO Fragile stickers affixed. Because of these oversights, it’s easy to understand why this sign arrived broken in at least 3 places.

Adding insult to injury, the settlement check received was $18 less than what was originally paid. The definition of insurance is coverage for “unforseen events” only. It is NOT to be used for covering willful, intentional acts. By using a pre-printed box saying “Golf Clubs” then failing to cover the words up with masking tape and OMITTING the Fragile (or “Handle with Care”) stickers, this now becomes an intentional act, NEGLIGENCE.

Furthermore, I am being “ghosted” by the assigned Claims Adjuster Tamira Stoglin who has failed to return any calls or replied to emails to-date. If no attempt is made to reach me by her or a UP Capital Insurance Agency Claims Supervisor, then sadly legal escalations may need to be considered.
